For this daytrip, we will start and end our journey in Termini (suburb of Massa Lubrense) where we will walk along the ancient Roman footpaths (some ruins are still visible along the path).
This itinerary follows the contour of the Peninsula overlooking the world renowned Isle of Capri which is only a few miles off shore from here.
The vegetation is typical of the area with Olive groves and wild Mediterranean bush. Within an hour we will reach the furthermost point at the tip of the peninsula where we will stop to explore the ruins of the “Punta Campanella Tower” (1300s) this is the exact same location where, since 200bc, there has been an ongoing presence of many different cultures and empires.
The next destination on our trip will be Mount “San Costanzo (485m asl) with spectacular views on either side.
Just to list a few, the marine park “Bay of Jeranto”, the Amalfi coast and the gulf of Salerno are to the south and the Vesuvius and the golf of Naples to the north
The views are particularly exhilarating (360 degrees uninterrupted views) at the very top where we will find the small church of San Costanzo which we might be able to visit if it’s opened to the public on that day.
From here we can descend back into Termini in approx 30 minutes.
Duration of this trip: 4 to 5 hours.
Degree of difficulty: Medium (with the exception of the climb to Mt San Costanzo, the rest is either flat or descending terrain).
Especially recommended if you prefer trekking with great panoramas and plenty of ocean views.
Bring along your camera for some spectacular pictures and some water to stay hydrated. Please also insure that you wear comfortable clothing and shoes. It is also recommended to wear sunglasses and some sunscreen.
